Course Enrollment: Biological Assessment Essentials

Course Schedule:

Course will be delivered Thursday, January 16th, 2025 from 7am to 3pm Pacific Time (10am to 6pm Eastern Time).

Presentation on that day will consist of instructional content delivered live over approximately 8 hours including lunch and rest breaks.

An optional Question and Answer Session will be available Friday, January 17th from 8am to 10am Pacific Time (11am to 1pm Eastern Time) to provide a 2 hour follow-up opportunity for those with additional questions.

Course Structure:

Format: The course will be presented as a live webinar on the ClickMeeting platform. Soon after enrolling, each student will be sent a personal invitation to the course which will include complete instructions for accessing it via ClickMeeting. 

Class Size: Class size will be limited to 15 students. Enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis.

Price: $525 per student.

Biological Assessment Essentials

This course explains and demonstrates the essential principles behind building a Biological Assessment to support consultation under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.

The course will explore:

The deconstruction technique for accurately developing an action area and establishing a foundation for the assessment
How to build a clear and defensible rationale for presence or absence of listed species and critical habitat
A systematic method of exploring and describing effects to species and critical habitat
Project effects determination categories and how to assign a project’s effects appropriately
Common weaknesses in assessments that disrupt smooth consultation with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service and how to avoid those weaknesses

This course is appropriate for practitioners at all levels, including those new to writing biological assessments, supervisors who review biological assessments, and experienced practitioners who would like to learn additional tips and techniques for better written documents and more efficient consultation.
